Xi'an Jiaotong University is one of the oldest universities in China. It grew out of Nan Yang College, which was founded in Shanghai in 1896, and it was given the name Jiaotong University in 1921. With the decision of the State Council, the main body of university was moved from Shanghai to Xi'an in 1956, and was formally named as Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1959. Xi'an Jiaotong University is one of nine leading universities in China directly under the Ministry of Education. It is a comprehensive university of natural science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, liberal arts and law, with science and engineering as is main focus. |
