Changchun is a young city with a long history. There were human activities here as early as 70,000 years ago and the earliest primitive hordes inhabited the area some 7,000 years ago. It was the possession of the "Fuyuguo" kingdom and the Bohaiyuan Kingdom successively. The years under the reign of the Liao (907-1125) and Jin (1115-1234) dynasties are considered the most prosperous periods in the history of Changchun. The Prefecture of "Huanglongfu" was established in the area of Nongan and an ancient pagoda built in the Liao Dynasty still exists. In 18000, the court of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), established in today's Xinlicheng, the Changchun Ting-an administrative division at the sub-provincial level. In the period 1931-1945, Changchun was reduced to the capital of the puppet Manchukuo regime, called "Xinjing" -the new capital.
Population of Changchun city is 6 million. The last Emperor in Chinese history Pu Yi was in our city during 1930's. Now his palace is a museum open to the world. Changchun is a cultural city, International Film Festival, International Education Exhibition and International Ice & Snow Festival are in our city. Chinese first film studio was established in Changchun. The Joint venture AUDI in Changchun FAW and joint Train coach (car) manufactory with German partners are in our city, too. Also many beautiful spots in our city and our province are open to the world all the year round.
Changchun is becoming an international city. Each year, many International exhibitions, expositions and conferences are held in Changchun, such as International Car Exhibitions, Education Exhibitions, Food Exposition, Film Festivals, etc. A lot of foreign institutions and companies join the activities.

| Changchun Normal University (CNU) is located in Changchun, the capital of Jilin Province and it is a public normal university with a wide range of subjects. CNU was established in 1958. It has 15 faculties and now offers 39 degree courses. There are 15500 full time students on campus. CNU has 1179 of teaching and administrative staff, among them 834 are teachers, 313 are professors and associate professors.
In China, Chinese people in different provinces speak Chinese with their local dialects. Mandarin was born in Changchun. The local people speak Chinese without any accent, just Pu tong hua (Mandarin). Foreign students can hear and talk in Mandarin on campus, as well as everywhere in our city-Changchun, as well as in our province.
Our Chinese teachers are rich-experienced and have taught foreign students for many years. Most of them have the Certificates of Teaching Chinese Language to Foreigners, issued by China Education Ministry. Our Chinese Department is famous of teaching and it has been conferred as Advanced Department by Jilin Provincial Education Department. In this language circumstance and with our highest teaching quality in CNU, foreign students will learn Chinese language better and faster.
In the past years, we have had students from Australia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Romania, Turkey, the United States, Zimbabwe, etc. After studying in our university, some of our students remained in China to study their programs, some went back their home countries or stay in China, have found their ideal jobs. |
