I first became interested in teaching English as a profession through teaching English on a daily basis to my flatmates from China. I feel that teaching English in China would be an ideal way to combine my skills, love for travelling and working with people. I am particularly attracted to the opportunity to work closely with individuals to maximise opportunities for their business.
China attracts me as I have already travelled China in 2004. I visited Beijing, Xian, Guillin, Nanjing and Shanghai. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about a new culture and meeting interesting people.
I am a highly studious and an IT literate student with a strong emphasis on exceeding goals. My honours degree in Marketing with management has developed my knowledge of business activities. A greater knowledge of business activities was gained through the completion of my dissertation topic, which covered Corporate responsibility. In addition, during the four years I worked for HBOS Business Banking I was seconded to work for six weeks in their Business Banking Products team. During this period, it was essential to pick up a large amount of business and technical information in a short period in order to work as an effective member of the team.
I have a large amount of experience in teaching English to both my Chinese flatmates. When they arrived in Scotland they had an extremely basic grasp of the English language. Over the last two years I have devoted a great deal of time to teaching them English language skills. They are now both fluent in both written and spoken English. One of my flatmates in particular, Zouyang He, has become a very close friend and even joins our family over the Christmas period.
Although to date, I have no experience in teaching English in a classroom environment, I feel I have sufficient knowledge through my academic experience and social interactions with Chinese nationals to teach confidently. In terms of teaching English on both an individual and business basis I feel I have the skills needed of patience and understanding and most importantly professionalism.

Achievements
I have successfully completed the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award and I am on my way to completing my Gold Award at present. This demonstrates my ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
I also have the ability to work as an individual to achieve goals in a timely manner. Over the last couple of years I have completed a vast number of 5k and 10k running events. This has not only allowed personal goals to be met but for a significant amount of money to be raised for charity.
My dissertation identified a 'research gap' from previous studies to gain a better understanding of corporate volunteering. This exercise required a great deal of planning and attention to detail to enable a structured piece of work to be produced. As well as increasing my knowledge of the topic area, on a personal level it helped to identify my strengths and weaknesses as an individual, and my ability to work under pressure.

Having worked with computers for many years I have a good knowledge of all major office software packages.
I have completed my training for the voluntary organisation HomeLink and I am looking forward to supporting my first family.
